Ms. Anara Guard, MLS, has worked in suicide and injury prevention since 1993. She is an injury and violence prevention consultant and serves as a subject matter expert to the California social marketing suicide prevention campaign. She provides technical assistance and training to a portfolio of primarily small and rural counties in northern California. Previously, she was deputy director of the national Suicide Prevention Resource Center at EDC, Inc. where she oversaw technical assistance to SAMHSA-funded grantees. Prior to that, she worked for the national injury prevention resource center, Children’s Safety Network, serving state maternal and child health agencies and for a Boston University School of Public Health project to promote substance abuse prevention and treatment in communities. Her publications include peer-reviewed articles and manuals on alcohol screening and brief intervention, hyperthermia deaths, violence and teen pregnancy, and guidelines for developing prevention materials. She has a master’s degree in library and information science and a certificate in maternal and child health.
